Job summary

BJC HealthCare is seeking an entry level Inpatient Coder I to accurately assign inpatient diagnoses and procedures in line with coding guidelines. This remote-eligible role welcomes those with CCS/CCA/RHIA/RHIT credentials or willingness to obtain them.

Responsibilities include abstracting data elements, staying current with coding changes, and collaborating with CDI, HIM Operations, and other departments to ensure coding integrity and compliant medical records.

Qualifications

• Inpatient coder role requires knowledge of inpatient coding guidelines and data abstraction.
• Must stay current with coding updates and regulatory changes.
• Collaborates with CDI, HIM Operations and other departments to ensure record integrity.

Responsibilities

• Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient encounters in accordance with guidelines.
• Abstracts data elements accurately and ensures coding compliance.
• Keeps up-to-date with changes in coding conventions and BJC coding guidance.
• Collaborates with CDI, HIM Operations and other departments to maintain record integrity.

Education

HS Diploma or GED

CCS or CCA or RHIA or RHIT
