Job summary

BJC HealthCare is hiring an Inpatient Coder I. This entry level role requires one of the following certifications: CCS, CCA, RHIA, or RHIT. The coder will assign diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient encounters in accordance with regulatory guidelines and coding guidance.

Responsibilities include data abstraction, DRG assessment, and timely code assignment. Collaboration with CDI, HIM Operations and other departments helps ensure record integrity and compliance.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Licenses & Certifications: CCS or CCA or RHIA or RHIT.
• Experience: No Experience required (entry level).

Responsibilities

• Accurately abstracts data elements as required.
• Stays current of all changes in coding conventions, regulatory guidelines, code updates and BJC coding guidance.
• Thoroughly reviews and analyzes patient encounters for compliant coding.
• Queries provider for clarification or additional information as required.
• Accurately assigns codes in a timely manner.
• Interprets, assesses and evaluates provider documentation for appropriate DRG assignment.
• Collaborates with leadership and departments to ensure coding integrity.
