Job summary

BJC HealthCare is hiring an Inpatient Coder I to assign diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient encounters, adhering to regulatory guidelines. The role is entry level and requires credentialing options such as CCS, CCA, RHIA or RHIT; certification is preferred.

The coder will abstract required data elements, stay current with coding changes, and collaborate with CDI, HIM Operations and other departments to ensure the medical record and coding compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• CCS or CCA or RHIA or RHIT preferred

Responsibilities

• Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient encounters following regulatory guidelines.
• Accurately abstracts data elements as required.
• Reviews and analyzes patient encounters for compliant coding.
• Collaborates with leadership, colleagues and other departments to ensure integrity of the medical record and coding compliance.
