Job summary

BJC HealthCare is hiring an Inpatient Coder I. This entry level role requires CCS or CCA or RHIA or RHIT certification and is remote-eligible for eligible states. The coder will assign diagnosis and procedures for inpatient encounters in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

The position supports data abstraction, DRG determination and coding compliance while collaborating with CDI and HIM teams to ensure accurate medical records.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• No experience required for this entry role.
• Must hold CCS, CCA, RHIA or RHIT certification.

Responsibilities

• Accurately abstracts data elements as required.
• Stays current with coding conventions and regulatory guidelines.
• Reviews patient encounters for compliant coding.
• Queries providers for clarification when needed.
• Assigns codes accurately and timely.
• Interprets documentation for DRG assignment.
• Collaborates with CDI, HIM Operations and other departments to ensure record integrity.
