Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced Inpatient Coder (CCS) for a remote role. The candidate will review documentation, query physicians, and assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes from multiple systems, ensuring high accuracy and productivity.

Requirements include CCS/RHIT/RHIA/CPC/CIC credentials, 3+ years inpatient coding, Level 1 Trauma experience, and Epic proficiency. Remote work with standard Cognizant benefits is offered.

Qualifications

• Active inpatient coding credentials (CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC or CIC)
• Minimum 3 years of facility-based inpatient coding experience
• Level 1 Trauma coding experience
• Epic experience required
• Knowledge of federal, state, and payer regulations
• Ability to interpret medical records and charts
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

• Review documentation to code diagnoses (ICD-10-CM) and procedures (ICD-10-PCS)
• Query physicians to clarify documentation
• Assign accurate codes using encoder applications per policy and guidelines
• Perform peer reviews of coding auditors and coders
• Complete reports as requested
• Maintain a minimum accuracy rate of 98%
• Meet inpatient productivity: 16 encounters/day, 2/hr, 30 min per encounter
• Coordinate with manager on schedules and new procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned
