Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced Inpatient Coder (CCS) for a remote role. You will review medical documentation and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient encounters, and collaborate with physicians to clarify documentation and ensure coding accuracy.

Credentials required: CCS/RHIT/RHIA/CPC/CIC, 3+ years inpatient coding, Level 1 Trauma, Epic experience, and knowledge of regulatory guidelines. Strong MS Office skills and independent teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Three years of facility-based inpatient coding experience (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, MS-DRG).
• Active CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC, or CIC credential.
• Level 1 Trauma coding experience required.
• Epic experience required.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and payer regulations.

Responsibilities

• Review documentation to code diagnoses (ICD-10-CM) and procedures (ICD-10-PCS).
• Communicate with physicians to obtain or clarify diagnoses/procedures via the query process.
• Assign accurate codes using an encoder application per policy and guidelines.
• Perform peer reviews of coding auditors/coders.
• Complete reports as requested.
