Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced Inpatient Coder (CCS Certified) for a remote role. The candidate will review documentation, query physicians, and assign ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS codes while maintaining high accuracy in a fast-paced remote environment.

The role requires 3+ years of facility-based inpatient coding, Level 1 Trauma experience, and Epic proficiency. Expect a salary of $63,000–$71,000 with eligibility for incentives.

Qualifications

• CCS or RHIT/RHIA or CPC or CIC credential required.
• Minimum 3 years facility-based inpatient coding experience.
• Level 1 Trauma coding experience required.
• Epic experience required.

Responsibilities

• Review documentation to code diagnoses (ICD-10-CM) and procedures (ICD-10-PCS).
• Communicate with physicians to obtain or clarify diagnoses/procedures via queries.
• Assign codes using an encoder per policy and regulatory guidelines.
• Perform peer reviews of coding auditors and coders.
• Complete reports as requested.
• Maintain an accuracy rate of 98% or higher.
• Meet inpatient productivity: 16 encounters/day, 2/hour, 30 minutes per encounter.
• Work across multiple systems simultaneously.
• Coordinate with manager and team on time off and new procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
