Job summary

Maximus seeks a Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support the IRS client in a fully remote capacity. You will lead COBOL development, design modules, review code, and coordinate with cross-functional teams to meet business requirements.

This role requires 5+ years of COBOL experience, DB2/CICS, and an active MBI. You will document specifications, assist testers, and mentor other developers while delivering reliable tax processing solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; four years of related work experience may substitute for the degree.
• At least five years of relevant experience.
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required.
• At least four years of experience with IBM COBOL.
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities.
• Experience with CICS.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interface with all levels of management.
• Ability to work well independently or in a team setting.
• Preferred: IRS processing systems experience; SQL, JCL, Batch processing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of software solutions to meet business requirements; design modules and conduct unit testing.
• Evaluate new coding techniques, tools, and modules and implement as appropriate.
• Consult on requirements elicitation and definition.
• Design software solutions per system requirements.
• Code reviews, unit tests, and integration of modules.
• Mentor other developers and resolve issues.
• Support testing and remediate defects.
• Troubleshoot production logs and data with users.
• Investigate new tools and techniques to improve coding standards.
• Provide guidance and training to staff.
