Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with hydro project experience to support Owner’s Consulting Engineer roles on refurbishment, modernization, upgrades, and new plants. You will plan, design, draft CAD models, and prepare manufacturing plans and cost estimates for diverse projects.

The role requires strong mechanical design knowledge, CAD/FEA skills, and effective communication with clients and teams. Expect travel for field work up to 20% and collaboration across multiple locations.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering degree required.
• Professional engineering license preferred.
• 5–10 years of experience in mechanical design for industrial projects.
• Experience with hydro units and generator design is a plus.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project engineers and managers on planning, design, CAD drafting, and manufacturing documents.
• Identify project goals with clients and develop effective strategies to meet them.
• Define loads and boundary conditions for mechanical design of turbines/generators.
• Apply appropriate manufacturing processes and perform quality control.
• Attend installation and commissioning activities and perform field measurements.
• Review contracts and communicate findings via reports and client presentations.
• Coordinate with end users, suppliers, and other engineers while following Stantec standards.
• Support site work and adapt to project needs across multiple locations.
