Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to advance hydro projects, including refurbishment, modernization, and new plants. You will work with engineers and project managers on design, CAD drafting, manufacturing plans, and cost estimates.

The role requires experience with hydro unit mechanical design, analytical calculations, and coordination with clients and suppliers. Occasional field work up to 20% and travel to project sites are expected.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering degree required.
• Professional engineering license preferred.
• 5-10 years experience required.
• Previous industrial safety training such as Confined Space certification or other OSHA training is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborating with project engineers and project managers to assist in planning, design, CAD drafting/modeling, and preparation of manufacturing plans, bid documents, technical specifications, and capital cost estimates for various engineering projects.
• Working with clients to identify project goals and priorities and providing strategies and approaches to achieve those objectives.
• Determining criteria, loads, and boundary conditions for the mechanical design of turbines and/or generators including supporting calculations and design basis documents.
• Utilizing knowledge of appropriate and efficient manufacturing processes.
• Performing quality control and designing inspection & test plans throughout the manufacturing process of the equipment.
• Attending and witnessing installation and commissioning of equipment.
• Performing field measurements and condition assessment of equipment.
• Identifying deficiencies, performing root cause analyses, and developing options for the remediation of deficiencies.
• Managing interfaces with the client end users, suppliers of components, tradespeople, and industrial manufacturing engineers.
• Reviewing commercial contracts for equipment supply & installation.
• Communicating findings in report and drawing formats. Delivering client presentations.
• Communicating with other team members and becoming familiar with Stantec standards.
