Job summary

Stantec in Pittsburgh is seeking a Mechanical Engineer specializing in hydroelectric rotating machinery to join our Owner’s Consulting Engineer teams on several hydro projects. You will contribute to refurbishment, modernization, upgrades, and new plant concepts while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineers.

Office-based with up to 20% field work and travel; requires a Mechanical Engineering degree, 5–10 years' experience, and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of the mechanical design of hydro units and related calculations.
• Experience with analytical calculations, manufacturing processes, and contracts.
• Proficiency with CAD and mechanical/structural FEA programs; MS Office experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, CAD drafting, and prepare manufacturing plans and specs.
• Define client goals and identify priorities.
• Set criteria and loads for turbine/generator design including calculations.
• Apply efficient manufacturing processes.
• Develop QA plans and inspection/test protocols.
• Attend installation and commissioning of equipment.
• Perform field measurements and condition assessments.
• Identify deficiencies and conduct root-cause analyses.
• Manage interfaces with clients, suppliers, and engineers.
• Review contracts for equipment supply and installation.
• Present findings in reports and client presentations.
• Adhere to Stantec standards and coordinate with team.
