Job summary

GFT is seeking an experienced Substation P&C Designer to join our Power Group in a remote position. The role involves protecting and controlling high voltage substations up to 765kV, with duties ranging from design to field verification and client communication.

You will develop diagrams, relay panels, and SCADA interfaces while coordinating with lead engineers; travel to sites may be required and professional interaction with clients is expected.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant substation or general electrical T&D designing experience.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Familiar with NESC, NEC and IEEE codes.
• Knowledge of substation voltages: MV, HV, EHV.
• Ability to manage schedules and budgets.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to review project documents and suggest value engineering ideas.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute HV substations from 4kV to 765kV, focusing on safety, cost, quality and reliability.
• Generate designs and deliverables under supervision of lead engineer and project manager.
• Complete basic engineering calculations for deliverables.
• Develop one- and three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, control/relay panel layouts and SCADA interfaces.
• Compile relay and control materials lists and quote/order as needed per contracts.
• Follow supervisor instructions for complex design tasks.
• Review drawings to ensure conformance with standards and customer requirements.
• Travel to job sites for assessment and data collection.
• Communicate with clients.
• Perform quality reviews of peers' projects.
