Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation to own the preliminary design lifecycle for utility-scale solar, BESS, and related interconnection projects.

This fully remote role leads 10% design, engages with clients, and coordinates inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, and estimating. You will develop 10% design deliverables, review standards (IEEE/NEC/NESC), and ensure alignment with schedules and budgets, while mentoring junior team members and supporting handoffs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP) and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design approach for assigned pursuits, defining design basis, equipment needs, layouts, and open items for the 10% design deliverable.
• Review client documents, PPAs, interconnection agreements, and utility handbooks to identify requirements, risks, and scope gaps.
• Serve as primary substation design SME coordinating inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, scheduling, and other specialists.
• Lead development of the 10% design including single-line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, and equipment sizing for estimating.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to align design, quantities, scope narrative, and commercial assumptions.
• Review estimates for technical completeness and identify gaps, owner-furnished equipment, contingencies, and exclusions.
• Deliver the owner-reviewed preliminary design to estimating and BD per stage-gate schedule.
• Prepare engineering scope, proposal information, and handoff details for Preconstruction Engineering.
