Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation for its nationwide solar, BESS, and interconnection projects.

This fully remote role serves as the primary technical owner from BD kickoff through Design-to-Preconstruction handoff, aligning design basis, assumptions, and schedules before execution begins. You will lead the 10% substation design, review client documents, coordinate inputs across engineering disciplines, and ensure alignment with project estimates and LNTP

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD or ETAP.
• Strong knowledge of substation design, protection schemes and standards (IEEE/ NEC/ NESC).
• Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations for electrical engineering and solar development.
• Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and contract language.
• Willingness to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Own the 10% substation design and related deliverables.
• Review client documents, PPAs, interconnection agreements to identify requirements and risks.
• Serve as primary SME for assigned projects and coordinate inputs from teams.
• Lead development of the 10% design including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling for alignment of scope and schedule.
• Review estimates for technical completeness and identify gaps.
• Deliver owner reviewed preliminary design to estimating and BD.
• Prepare and issue proposals to EORs and subcontractors.
• Prepare engineering scope, schedule inputs, and handoff details.
• Support handoff to Preconstruction Engineering team.
