Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking an experienced Design Engineer II, Substation for remote work to own the preliminary substation design and technical ownership across solar, BESS, and interconnection projects nationwide.

You will coordinate with engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, and scheduling to define design basis, equipment sizing, and scope items while guiding the 10% design deliverable and handoff to Preconstruction Engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficiency with electrical design software such as AutoCAD or ETAP.
• Strong understanding of substation design principles, protection schemes, and industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC).
• Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and contract language.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design for 10% design deliverables.
• Review client documents and project inputs to define design basis and key assumptions.
• Coordinate technical inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, scheduling, and other disciplines.
• Lead development of 10% substation design including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
• Ensure alignment of design, scope, schedule, and commercial assumptions with estimating and BD.
• Support handoff to Preconstruction Engineering with all RFIs, comments and risks.
• Review proposals for technical scope and ensure alignment with project scope and LNTP requirements.
• Mentor junior staff in substation design, protection and controls, metering, and related areas.
