Job summary

Sharing Excess is a fast-growing food rescue organization with hubs in Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, and Detroit. We seek an HR Generalist, Recruiting to lead full-cycle recruitment across all hubs, while providing essential HR support.

You will focus ~70% on recruiting and ~30% on general HR operations, including onboarding, HRIS upkeep, and compliance tasks, partnering with the HR Manager and Senior HR Generalist.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience, in-house or agency.
• Experience with high-volume hourly and professional or salaried searches.
• Working knowledge of onboarding, I-9s, HRIS, and employee relations basics.
• Familiarity with employment law including fair chance and pay transparency.
• Experience with applicant tracking systems and HRIS.
• Strong organization and discretion with confidential information.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to hub locations.
• HR Generalist experience or PHR/SHRM-CP or similar certification.
• Experience recruiting in PA, NY, IL, MI.
• Nonprofit, food systems, logistics, or warehouse hiring experience.
• Bilingual Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Own full-cycle recruitment end to end across every hub and department.
• Partner with hiring managers to define role needs, interview plans, and selection criteria.
• Source candidates via job boards, community partners, colleges, and referrals with local focus.
• Manage high-volume hourly hiring for warehouse, driver, and operations alongside professional searches.
• Coach managers on structured, inclusive, and legally compliant interviewing.
• Maintain the ATS and keep candidates informed at every stage.
• Prepare offer letters with the HR Manager and hand off to onboarding.
• Track recruiting metrics like time to fill, pipeline health, and source of hire.
• Keep careers page current and reflect mission and culture in employer brand.
• Support annual hiring plan and budget alignment.
• Step in as backup HR Generalist for coverage when needed.
• Support onboarding: paperwork, I-9, orientation, 30/60/90-day checks.
• Serve as point of contact for HR questions; route complex issues to HR Manager.
• Keep HRIS data accurate.
• Assist with compliance tasks with Senior HR Generalist, Compliance & Payroll.
• Support offboarding, engagement surveys, and culture initiatives.
