Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a senior inpatient coder to assign CPT-4 and modifiers for hospital-based services. You will review charts, abstract data, and ensure compliance with AHIMA/AAPC standards while maintaining high productivity.

Proficiency in hospitalist and intensivist coding is required, with remote work flexibility across the U.S. Ideal candidates hold AHIMA or AAPC credentials and have at least five years of coding experience, including hospital settings and complex workflows.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Active AHIMA or AAPC credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-H).
• Minimum 5 years of coding experience with hospitalist and intensivist emphasis.

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT-4 assignments and modifiers for inpatient hospital coding.
• Abstract data elements during chart review as needed.
• Adhere to AHIMA/AAPC ethical coding standards and Optum360 guidelines.
• Maintain coding knowledge via supervisor materials and department meetings.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Review charts coded and monitor records of coded/missing charts.
