Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation to own the preliminary design lifecycle for utility-scale solar, BESS, and interconnection projects.

The role serves as the primary technical owner from BD kickoff through design-to-preconstruction handoff, aligning design, scope, schedule, risk, and technical assumptions before execution begins. The position involves leading 10% design development, coordinating with internal and external teams, and ensuring alignment with project

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
• 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar).
• Strong understanding of substation design principles, protection schemes, and industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC).

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design for assigned pursuits, defining basis, assumptions, equipment, layouts, quantities, risks, and open items for 10% design.
• Coordinate with engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, scheduling, and other teams to align technical inputs.
• Review estimates for technical completeness and identify gaps or exclusions needing clarification.
• Deliver the owner-reviewed preliminary design to estimating and BD per the stage-gate schedule.
• Mentor junior team members and supervise design staff.
