Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation to own preliminary substation design and guide the project from BD kickoff through design-to-preconstruction handoff.

This role acts as the technical owner, aligning design basis, assumptions, schedule, and risk for utility-scale solar, BESS, and interconnection projects. The position requires coordinating inputs from multiple teams and external consultants, leading 10% design deliverables, and ensuring alignment with project

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 3+ years of electrical substation engineering experience.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP or similar).

Responsibilities

• Own the preliminary substation design for assigned pursuits and projects, defining design basis, assumptions, equipment needs, quantities, risks and open items for the 10% design deliverable.
• Review client documents, exhibits, PPAs, interconnection agreements, and owner standards to identify requirements, risks, and scope gaps.
• Serve as primary substation design SME coordinating inputs from engineering, procurement, estimating, scheduling, and specialty subcontractors.
• Lead development of the 10% design including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings for estimating and pricing.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to align design, quantities, scope narrative, schedule and commercial assumptions.
• Review estimates for technical completeness and identify gaps, owner-furnished equipment, contingencies and scope items needing clarification.
• Deliver owner-reviewed preliminary substation design to estimating and BD per project stage-gate.
• Participate in client meetings to review exhibits, explain assumptions, identify risks, and clarify requirements outside SOLV standards.
• Support contractual exhibit reviews, markups, and technical responses to LNTP, escalating material commitments and risks.
• Communicate design decisions and open items clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
