Job summary

GitLab is seeking a Senior Absence Management Partner to lead global time away programs and guide teammates through leave journeys. You’ll ensure compliance with employment laws, company policies, and regulations while delivering accurate, empathetic support during important life moments.

You’ll coordinate leave processes across Workday, HRIS, and payroll, advise stakeholders, and drive improvements to program infrastructure and data quality.

Qualifications

• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including explaining complex concepts and guiding stakeholders toward sound decisions.
• Experience administering global leave and accommodation programs with cross-functional partners and external stakeholders.
• Problem-solving and critical-thinking to evaluate information, assess trade-offs, and recommend actions.
• Strong organization and attention to detail managing high-volume sensitive work with deadlines.
• Experience meeting strict deadlines and driving issues to completion with accountability.
• Experience in a changing global environment and across distributed teams.
• Workday experience and proficiency with Google Workspace, plus GitLab tools and AI tooling awareness.
• Experience using AI tools responsibly to improve workflows, documentation, and reporting while protecting privacy.

Responsibilities

• Manage full lifecycle of GitLab's leave of absence programs, including documentation intake, wage reporting, accurate case processing in Workday and related systems.
• Monitor regulatory changes and translate them into policy, process, and handbook updates.
• Track leave requests in HRIS, identify dependencies, and recommend improvements to compliance, reporting, and member experience.
• Serve as the primary contact for team members throughout departure, leave, accommodation, and return-to-work processes.
• Resolve complex time away questions with managers, People Partners, Legal, Payroll, Benefits, and external partners.
• Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects involving HRIS configuration, vendor implementations, and process redesign.
• Maintain policies, processes, and guidance to improve consistency and efficiency.
• Analyze leave data to identify risks and inform program improvements, including AI usage with privacy and compliance in mind.
