Job summary
ABB in the United States is seeking a Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Commissioning Engineer to lead the commissioning of GIS and RMU systems safely, accurately, and to high technical standards. This role places you at the center of complex customer projects, where your onsite leadership and problem-solving help ensure system performance and customer confidence.
The work model for the role is Remote in the US, supporting the ELSE Data Center Services Center of Excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- 10+ years of commissioning and field engineering experience.
- Experience with ABB GIS (ZX Portfolio) and RMU (SafeRing/SafePlus).
- Experience with ABB Protection & Control platforms (ZEE600, SSC600, PCM600).
- Knowledge of generator paralleling systems and critical power infrastructure.
- Proficient in technical writing for commissioning documentation.
- Ability to travel 40-50%.
Responsibilities
- Lead commissioning of ABB GIS and RMU systems per standards.
- Create commissioning work plans, cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and MOPs.
- Support execution through energization and customer acceptance.
- Support FAT and IFAT.
- Interface with customers, EPCs, utilities, and ABB teams.
- Identify commissioning risks and lead mitigation actions.
- Support contract managers with technical input on scope and claims.
- Perform site visits to support commissioning teams.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers.
