Job summary

ABB is seeking a Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Commissioning Engineer in the United States. You will lead commissioning of GIS and RMU systems, ensuring safety, accuracy, and adherence to IEEE/IEC/ANSI standards, while interfacing with customers and EPCs.

This remote role supports the ELSE Data Center Services Center of Excellence and involves mentoring junior engineers, coordinating with ABB teams, and traveling to project sites across the region.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years in commissioning and field engineering.
• Strong ABB GIS ZX Portfolio and RMU experience.
• Experience with ABB Protection & Control platforms ZEE600, SSC600, PCM600.
• Knowledge of generator paralleling and critical power infrastructure.
• Proficient in writing commissioning documentation.
• Ability to travel 40-50%.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning of ABB GIS and RMU systems per ABB standards and IEEE/IEC/ANSI requirements.
• Create commissioning work plans, cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and MOPs.
• Support execution and manage commissioning through energization and customer acceptance.
• Support FAT and IFAT activities.
• Interface with customers, EPCs, utilities, and ABB teams.
• Identify commissioning risks and lead mitigation actions.
• Support contract managers with technical input on scope and claims.
• Perform site visits to support commissioning teams.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers.
