Nelnet is seeking a Data Pipeline Engineer to design, build, and maintain data pipelines on Google Cloud for GenAI use cases. You will ingest, transform, and serve client data with emphasis on security, governance, and access controls.

The role emphasizes collaboration with GCP/Gemini and Forward Deployed Engineers, data classification, and regulatory compliance for higher education data. Remote-friendly with hybrid options.

Qualifications

• Hands-on data pipeline and ELT/ETL development for analytics or GenAI use cases on a major cloud data platform.
• Experience with data governance and classification tooling to manage sensitive data.
• Strong SQL and Python for pipeline development and data transformation.
• Familiarity with FERPA/compliance considerations in education data.
• Ability to translate requirements into scalable data pipelines and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using BigQuery and Dataflow for GenAI use cases.
• Develop ELT/ETL processes for batch ingestion of client data into analytics stores.
• Monitor pipeline reliability, performance, and cost; optimize for scale.
