Job summary

Nelnet is seeking a Data Pipeline Engineer to design, build, and maintain data pipelines on Google Cloud to support GenAI use cases for higher education and SLED clients.

You will implement ELT/ETL, classify data with Dataplex and DLP, enforce governance, and collaborate with GCP/Gemini teams to ensure data readiness and compliance, including FERPA considerations across engagements. This role is remote/hybrid with some in-office schedule.

Qualifications

• Hands-on data pipelines and ELT/ETL for analytics or GenAI in a cloud platform.
• Experience with governance and classification tooling for sensitive data.
• Strong SQL and Python for pipeline development and data transformation.
• Knowledge of FERPA and education/public sector data privacy.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines on BigQuery/Dataflow.
• Classify and tag client data with Dataplex/DLP for AI readiness.
• Define data models, schemas, and governance across engagements.
• Collaborate with GCP/Gemini Engineers and AgentOps on delivery.
