Job summary
Nelnet, Inc. is seeking a Data Engineer to design and maintain data pipelines on Google Cloud, enabling GenAI use cases. You will work with GCP/Gemini engineers to ensure data is structured, classified, and access-controlled for AI readiness.
The role emphasizes data governance, FERPA awareness, and scalable ELT/ETL development. Ideal candidates have strong SQL and Python skills, hands-on BigQuery/Dataflow experience, and a collaborative approach to delivery within a hybrid work model supporting
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience building data pipelines and ELT/ETL on a major cloud platform.
- Strong BigQuery and Dataflow (or Airflow) experience preferred; ramping on Google Cloud ok.
- Knowledge of data governance and handling sensitive data (FERPA-like contexts).
- Proficient SQL and Python for pipeline development and transformation.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using BigQuery and Dataflow.
- Develop ELT/ETL processes for batch ingestion into analytics data stores.
- Monitor pipeline reliability, performance, and cost; optimize BigQuery usage.
- Classify data for AI readiness and enforce appropriate access controls.
- Collaborate with GCP/Gemini Eng and AgentOps on data structure and security.
