Nelnet is seeking a Data Pipeline Engineer to design, build, and maintain data pipelines for GenAI use cases on Google Cloud. You will implement ELT/ETL processes, ensure data readiness and governance, and collaborate with GCP/Gemini teams to support RAG pipelines.

The role emphasizes data classification, access controls, and documentation, with a hybrid/remote work model and a strong focus on FERPA compliance for education data.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building data pipelines and ELT/ETL for analytics or GenAI on a major cloud data platform.
• Direct experience with BigQuery and Dataflow (or Cloud Composer/Apache Airflow) strongly preferred.
• Experience with data governance and classification tooling for identifying and managing sensitive data.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using BigQuery and Dataflow to ingest, transform, and serve client data for GenAI use cases.
• Build and maintain ELT/ETL processes for batch ingestion into Google Cloud analytics and RAG data stores.
• Monitor pipeline reliability, performance, and cost, optimizing BigQuery usage and Dataflow jobs as engagements scale.
• Classify and tag client data using Dataplex and DLP to identify sensitive data prior to AI use.
• Define data access controls and governance policies for education and public sector data.
• Design data models and schemas, partner with client teams, and maintain technical documentation.
