Job summary

Nelnet is seeking a Data Engineer to own the data foundation for GenAI solutions in higher education and public sector clients. You will design and operate data pipelines on Google Cloud, ensure data is classified, governed, and access-controlled for AI use, and partner across engineering teams to deliver reliable data for agentic AI experiences.

Responsibilities include ELT/ETL development, data quality assurance, and collaboration on data structure for RAG pipelines.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain data pipelines for GenAI use cases on Google Cloud.
Classify and tag data for AI readiness with Dataplex and DLP to identify sensitive data.
Define data access controls and governance policies for education and public sector data.
Architect data models and schemas for current and reusable patterns across engagements.
Deliver data pipelines under backlog and coordinate with engineers for AI readiness.
Collaborate with GCP/Gemini Enterprise Engineering and AgentOps on data structure and security.
