Job summary

Nelnet is seeking a Data Pipeline Engineer to own the data foundation for GenAI solutions in higher education and SLED clients. You will build and maintain data pipelines on Google Cloud (BigQuery/Dataflow) and develop ELT/ETL processes to enable AI readiness.

Work with GCP/Gemini and Forward Deployed Engineer to ensure data structure, access controls, and governance meet FERPA requirements. Hybrid remote work with some in-office collaboration is supported.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building data pipelines on major cloud platforms (BigQuery, Dataflow) — required.
• Experience with data governance and classification tools (Dataplex, DLP) and FERPA/education data.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using BigQuery and Dataflow.
• Ingest, transform, and serve client data for GenAI use cases.
• Develop ELT/ETL processes for batch data into Google Cloud stores.
• Monitor pipeline reliability, performance, and cost.
• Define data access controls and governance policies.
• Collaborate with GCP/Gemini and AgentOps engineers.
