Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend for the Coinbase One team. You will own backend systems powering the membership lifecycle—from sign-up and payments to benefit delivery—driving subscriber growth and retention for millions of customers.

You will collaborate with frontend, product, design, and payments to scope, ship, and iterate features across web and mobile, while improving reliability and performance of the backend stack.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience with a track record of shipping and operating production services at scale.
• Demonstrated experience building subscription, payments, or commerce systems, including recurring billing, entitlements, or promotional logic.
• Proficiency in Go or a similar backend systems language (Java, C++, Rust) with demonstrated ability to adapt to a Go-centric codebase.
• Proven ability to design and maintain APIs and distributed systems that integrate across multiple product surfaces (web and mobile).
• Track record of taking ambiguous projects from scoping through production with minimal oversight, including cross-functional collaboration with product and design partners.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, development, and operation of backend services powering the Coinbase One membership lifecycle, including sign-up flows, subscription management, and recurring payment processing.
• Build scalable platform capabilities that enable targeted benefit delivery, promotional incentives, and personalized membership experiences across the Coinbase retail application.
• Partner with frontend, product, design, and payments teams to scope, ship, and iterate on customer-facing membership features from concept through production.
• Drive backend architecture decisions for the Coinbase One product area, establishing patterns for reliability, extensibility, and integration with broader Coinbase platform services.
• Improve service reliability, observability, and performance across Coinbase One's backend stack, proactively identifying and resolving production issues.
