Job summary

ABB in the United States seeks a remote-friendly Field Service Technician to perform on-site service work for ABB Smart Power across North Dakota and South Dakota. You’ll install, troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade critical power equipment, while coaching technicians and ensuring safety and quality standards.

The role requires a technical degree with several years of experience, strong communication, and proficiency in MS Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology with 4+ years’ experience servicing critical power equipment OR Associates Degree in electrical technology with 6+ years’ experience in servicing critical power equipment OR High School Diploma/GED and equivalent work and/or military experience (8+ years) servicing critical power equipment.
• Advanced communication skills (written and verbal) across organization levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to manage using MS Project or Excel.
• Ability to write test plans and reports detailing test results.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines on admin duties.
• Shows urgency and ownership; follows tasks through to completion.

Responsibilities

• Work on-site with customers to identify opportunities for operational improvement and eliminate pain points.
• Perform field service tasks, including identifying technical issues and conducting on-site troubleshooting within certified areas.
• Execute installation and commissioning, maintenance, repairs, extensions, upgrades, retrofits, end-of-life services, and replacements.
• Support certification processes and coach technicians; act as trainer when needed.
• Prepare material lists for service activities and ensure materials meet quality standards.
• Identify opportunities for product and quality improvements; communicate recommendations to management.
• Identify new sales opportunities by addressing customer needs.
