Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Field Service Engineer I to deliver technical expertise in starting up and servicing switchgear systems and generator controls across a broad territory in the United States.

You will handle warranty claims, perform repairs, and support preventative maintenance contracts under the guidance of the Regional Service Manager. The role requires extensive travel (up to 75%), strong collaboration with dealers and customers, and ongoing training on evolving systems and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET).
• Minimum 2 years of related experience or 4 years of equivalent experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet background, drug, and medical requirements.
• Knowledge of power systems, including switchgear, ATS, and generator systems, with ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Experience with automation and controls, including PLC-based systems, HMIs, and distributed control systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform startup, preventative maintenance, testing, repair, and advanced electrical services on generator paralleling controls and switchgear systems.
• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction across the assigned territory while supporting on‑call service needs (75% travel required).
• Assist and train internal technicians and external customers on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and equipment testing.
• Collaborate with the Product Support Center help desk to troubleshoot and resolve customer issues.
