Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Field Service Engineer I to deliver technical startup and maintenance services for switchgear and generator systems across the United States territory.

The role emphasizes proactive customer support, on-site service, and cross-functional collaboration with technicians and the product support center. Responsibilities include performing repairs, preventative maintenance, and training customers while maintaining accurate reports and documentation.

Qualifications

• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET).
• Experience working cross-functionally with engineers, contractors, and end users.
• Knowledge of power systems including switchgear, ATS, generator systems.
• Experience with automation and controls (PLC-based systems, HMIs, DCS).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet background, drug, and medical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform startup, preventative maintenance, testing, repair, and advanced electrical services on generator paralleling controls and switchgear systems.
• Support on-call service needs with up to 75% travel within assigned territory.
• Assist and train internal technicians and external customers on maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing.
• Collaborate with service/help desk to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Submit daily service reports and maintain project documentation in a timely manner.
