Job summary

Carrington Mortgage Services is seeking a Loss Mitigation FHA Claims Specialist to prepare, file, and follow up on FHA home retention claims in a timely, accurate manner from a home-based setup.

You will handle HUD claims, perform reconciliations, and document all actions while adhering to investor guidelines and CMS procedures. The role emphasizes attention to detail, communication, and deadline-driven work in a remote environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience; some college preferred.
• 1–2 years mortgage servicing default experience preferred.
• Previous FHA claims experience preferred.
• Understanding the loss mitigation and claims process.
• Excellent written and oral communication, organizational and time management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to problem solve.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and quality on loan evaluation.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure and changing priorities.
• Ability to understand opposing points of view and negotiate for best interests.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and file all HUD claims timely and accurately according to guidelines.
• Follow up semi-daily on all outstanding claim proceeds.
• Perform loan level reconciliation for final claim proceeds, balance amounts and escrow.
• Provide posting instructions for all claim proceeds within 24 hours of receipt.
• Review, follow-up and ensure timely completion of all scheduled steps.
• Input completion dates when actions occur and adjust when needed.
• Obtain approvals and shift dates when steps cannot be completed.
• Daily routine follow-up on all items.
• Keep Supervisor informed of trends and problems, including denials/curtailments.
• Document servicing actions, delays, follow-up, and conversations in system notes.
• Ensure all claim documents are imaged timely.
• Maintain HUD audit file and related records.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
