Job summary

SMX is seeking a federal financial business analyst to advance the BAS solution for SAC, working with budget SMEs and cross-functional teams. The role is fully remote with travel <20% and requires Public Trust clearance. You will document processes, support testing, and help deploy next-gen planning capabilities for federal customers.

The position emphasizes analytical thinking, client-facing delivery, and the ability to translate complex federal budgeting concepts into actionable requirements across the SDLC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Accounting, IS, Data Analytics, Public Administration, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in federal financial management, business process analysis, data analytics and reporting, management or technology consulting, or operations analysis/strategic planning.
• Experience working with federal government financial data and processes.
• Experience with data analysis, reconciliation, and exception resolution.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain one.
• Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Develop a deep understanding of client objectives, financial operations, and priorities.
• Analyze and document business processes, requirements, and decision-making needs.
• Facilitate workshops with stakeholders to identify process improvements.
• Recommend solutions that improve efficiency and financial outcomes.
• Review policies and data structures to assess impacts on processes.
• Use BI tools to maximize value of client data assets.
• Guide clients in adopting solutions to improve reporting and performance.
• Collaborate across teams to align requirements across business, data, and tech.
• Create quality SDLC documentation (RTM, FDD, design docs, training guides).
• Develop test plans and manage test execution.
