Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Software Engineer III to design, build, and maintain Ruby on Rails services and APIs, paired with modern JavaScript/React frontends. You will lead end-to-end feature delivery, ensure high-quality code, and mentor junior engineers to raise the team's technical capability.

Applicants should have strong experience with distributed systems, architecture, and scalable design, and be comfortable collaborating with Product and Customer Success teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, and PostgreSQL.
• Proven track record of making high-impact technical decisions in production environments.
• Excellent cross-functional communication with engineers and stakeholders.
• Experience in software architecture, system design, and scalability.
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Ruby on Rails services and APIs alongside modern JavaScript/React frontends.
• Lead the design and delivery of complex features end to end.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and reduce complexity by simplifying services and paying down technical debt.
• Mentor junior engineers and level up the team through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Evolve the platform to support new services and capabilities across codebases.
• Partner with external vendors and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
