Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Emergency Department Coder to ensure accurate, compliant medical coding across outpatient surgery, observation, ED, and diagnostic encounters. You will collaborate with physicians and staff, review documentation, and use encoder tools to meet 98% accuracy and productivity standards.

This fully remote role supports a healthy work-life balance with flexible workflows. Applicants must have CPC/CCS or equivalent certification and experience in outpatient coding.

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC), CCS, or equivalent coding certification.
• Experience coding and auditing outpatient, observation, emergency department, and outpatient diagnostic encounters.
• Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and applicable regulatory guidelines.
• Experience using electronic encoder applications and healthcare coding systems.
• Ability to interpret complex clinical documentation and communicate coding queries with physicians.
• Proven ability to meet productivity goals while maintaining minimum 98% accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes for outpatient settings including ED, observation, and diagnostic encounters.
• Query physicians and staff to obtain clarifications on diagnoses and procedures.
• Utilize encoder tools and coding software in line with policies and regulations.
• Maintain coding accuracy and productivity targets (>=98%).] ,
