Job summary

Cognizant seeks an Emergency Department Coder to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance of medical coding across healthcare settings. You will collaborate with coders, physicians, and operations to support regulatory and revenue cycle excellence.

Remote role with flexible work-life balance and mandatory CPC/CCS certification. Experience in outpatient coding and knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS is required for high-quality coding queries and audits.

Qualifications

• Certified professional coder certifications required.
• Experience coding and auditing outpatient, observation, ED, and outpatient diagnostic encounters.
• Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and regulatory guidelines.
• Experience using encoder applications and coding systems.
• Ability to interpret complex clinical documentation and communicate with physicians.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and assign diagnosis and procedure codes for ED, outpatient surgery, observation, and outpatient encounters.
• Communicate with physicians to obtain clarifications via coding queries.
• Use encoder applications and coding tools to assign codes per policies and guidelines.
• Perform peer reviews and audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare coding audit reports, findings, and recommendations for leadership.
• Maintain minimum coding accuracy rate of 98% while meeting productivity standards.
