Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced Emergency Department Coder to ensure accurate medical coding across outpatient, ED, and observation encounters. You will collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify diagnoses and ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines.

This fully remote role requires a CPC or CCS credential and a track record of high accuracy (minimum 98%), with strong auditing skills and the ability to meet productivity targets in a fast-paced healthcare

Qualifications

• Certified CPC or CCS or equivalent credential.
• Experience coding and auditing outpatient, observation, ED, and outpatient encounters.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and related guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and assign diagnosis and procedure codes for outpatient services, observation, ED, and outpatient encounters.
• Communicate with physicians and staff to obtain clarification on diagnoses and procedures.
• Use encoder software to assign accurate codes per policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Perform peer reviews and quality audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare and deliver coding audit reports and recommendations to leadership.
• Maintain minimum coding accuracy rate of 98% while meeting productivity standards.
