Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Emergency Department Coder to ensure accurate coding across multiple healthcare settings. You will review documents, query physicians, and use encoder tools to maintain 98% accuracy while meeting productivity standards.

The role is fully remote with flexibility and an incentive program based on performance. Candidates must hold CPC/CCS or equivalent and have ED/outpatient coding experience.

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or CCS certification.
• Experience coding and auditing outpatient, observation, ED, and outpatient diagnostic encounters.
• Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and regulatory guidelines.
• Experience using electronic encoder applications and healthcare coding systems.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and assign diagnosis and procedure codes for outpatient surgery, observation, ED, and outpatient encounters.
• Communicate with physicians to obtain clarification on diagnoses and procedures via the coding query process.
• Use encoder applications to assign accurate codes following company policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Perform peer reviews and quality audits to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
• Prepare and deliver coding audit reports with findings and recommendations.
