Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Emergency Department Coder to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance of medical coding across outpatient surgery, observation, emergency department, and diagnostic encounters. You will collaborate with physicians, coding professionals, and operational stakeholders to support regulatory compliance and revenue cycle excellence.

This fully remote role requires CPC or CCS certification, with experience coding and auditing ED/outpatient encounters and strong ICD-10-CM, CPT,

Qualifications

• Certified CPC or CCS or equivalent.
• Experience coding and auditing ED/outpatient encounters.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and regulatory guidelines.
• Experience using electronic encoder applications and healthcare coding systems.
• Ability to clarify diagnoses/procedures with physicians.
• Proven ability to meet productivity goals with 98% accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes for outpatient surgery, observation, ED, and outpatient encounters.
• Communicate with physicians/clinical staff to obtain clarification on diagnoses and procedures via coding queries.
• Utilize encoder applications to assign codes per policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Perform peer reviews and quality audits to ensure coding accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare and deliver coding audit reports, findings, and recommendations to leadership.
• Maintain a minimum coding accuracy rate of 98% while meeting productivity standards.
