Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Principal Substation Protection & Control Engineer to lead the design of high-voltage substations and mentor junior engineers. You will develop code-compliant, reliable protection schemes and collaborate with clients across multi-disciplinary teams from concept through construction.

The role offers opportunities for remote/hybrid work within the United States, with proximity to listed Qualus office locations.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree required.
• 15 years experience in substation protection & control design.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) license.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong document management, organization, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design substation protection and control systems per codes and client standards.
• Create one-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring, and SCADA layouts.
• Develop protective relaying and control system designs for transmission and distribution.
• Develop relay protection schemes, relay settings criteria, and calculations.
• Create equipment and material specifications for procurement and design scope/cost estimates.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors for project execution.
• Lead client meetings and site visits to collect data and present engineering solutions.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance and mentor junior engineers and designers.
