Job summary

Applied Engineering, a Midwest engineering consulting firm, seeks an Electrical Design Engineer (Remote) to lead electrical design and validation across major subsystems. You will own schematics, BOMs, and validation plans while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with multiple teams.

The role emphasizes staying current with power systems, renewables, and industry standards, with up to 20% travel within the USA. A BS in EE and 5+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (required).
• 5+ years in electrical design or electromechanical systems.
• Knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring and controls.
• Experience spec’ing switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, generators.
• Experience with NEC/UL criteria for component validation.
• Proven in design documentation, reviews, testing and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with electrical power standards and regulations.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% in the USA.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and validation for subsystems and product areas.
• Translate system requirements into robust electrical designs.
• Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specs and BOMs.
• Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototypes, testing and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality).
• Mentor early-career engineers and reinforce standards.
• Support project planning, effort estimation and execution.
• Stay current with power systems, microgrids and renewal energy trends.
