Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks an Acute Facility ED Coder to apply ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to patient records for data retrieval, claims processing, and outcome management. You will work within the Health Information Management team and support accurate coding for ED admissions across the system.

The role requires AHIMA/AAPC credentialing, 2+ years of ED coding experience, and proficiency in EMR and encoder systems.

Qualifications

• Certification in coding from AHIMA or AAPC as required
• Minimum 2+ years coding/abstracting experience
• ED and ancillary facility coding experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures per ED admissions guidelines
• Review provider documentation to determine reason for visit and diagnoses
• Enter codes into encoder/abstracting system and ensure data accuracy
• Provide documentation feedback to providers as needed
• Adhere to AHIMA coding standards and official guidelines
• Meet KPI-based productivity and quality targets
• Participate in department meetings and coding education events
