Job summary

IPS, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is seeking a Design Safety Engineer to join our team at one of our U.S. office locations (MA, NJ, PA, MD, NC, KS, CA); this position can also be remote.

You will support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the IPS Design Division Safety Program, ensuring designs can be constructed, operated, and maintained safely and that field safety is monitored for IPS personnel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University or College in Engineering, Architecture, or a relevant science.
• Knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926 requirements.
• Experience interacting and communicating directly with cross-functional facility owner teams.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects contemporaneously.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality process safety support with the Director of Engineering.
• Coordinate with the director, project managers, and clients on scope, complexity, planning and scheduling.
• Determine the type of safety reviews required for the project, including design risk assessments and PHA.
• Facilitate PHAs and design risk assessments using HAZOP, What-if, HAZID, LOPA, etc.
• Coordinate planning, resource scheduling, and compliance with client standards.
• Develop and implement IPS process safety programs, including PHA, PRD, LEL calculations, and HAC.
• Develop departmental policies, technical standards, and procedures.
• Provide consultation on hazards and mitigation strategies.
• Train IPS personnel on process safety management.
• Coordinate with outside consultants for training and resourcing.
• Perform process safety calculations related to PRD, LEL infiltration, and HAC.
• Review facility designs for regulatory compliance and safety alignment.
