Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and improve encryption, key management, and access controls across enterprise data platforms. The role is 100% remote within SNHU-approved states and collaborates with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams.

You will harden configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and related services, ensuring least-privilege access and robust data protection across pipelines and ingestion

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in information security or related field.
• Experience with data protection, encryption, and key management.
• Hands-on SQL security assessment and RBAC/ABAC.
• Ability to work remotely in SNHU-approved states.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Implements and maintains data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configures and operates encryption controls for data at rest and in transit.
• Implements least-privilege access models and conducts entitlement reviews.
• Hardens security configurations for data platforms and databases.
• Embeds security controls into data workflows and protects service identities and pipelines.
• Protects non-production environments with synthetic data and masking standards.
• Automates control deployment and compliance validation via IaC and APIs.
• Documents implementation guides, runbooks, and threat modeling.
• Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential functions.
• Other duties as assigned.
