Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement, operate, and improve security controls across enterprise data platforms including Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and Azure SQL. The role is 100% remote from SNHU-approved states, reporting to the Deputy CISO, with a focus on encryption, access controls, and secure data pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• Equivalent of experience in lieu of degree acceptable: Yes
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or a related field, including 2+ years focused on data protection or database security.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain reusable data protection controls.
• Translate data classification, sensitivity, and regulatory requirements into enforceable controls.
• Implement least-privilege access models across data platforms and conduct entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, SQL Server, data lakes, and storage services.
• Embed security controls into data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, sharing, and export workflows.
• Automate control deployment, configuration assessment, and compliance validation.
