Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to protect institutional data across enterprise platforms (Azure SQL, SQL Server, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric). 100% remote from approved states; collaborate with Security Operations, Data Governance, and IT teams to implement encryption, access controls, and secure data pipelines.

You will automate deployment, document runbooks, and support threat modeling and secure design reviews, reporting to the Deputy CISO.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering, or a related field, with 2+ years in data protection.
Proficiency with SQL, including assessing queries, permissions, schemas, and database security configurations.
Scripting and automation experience using platform APIs, IaC, or similar tooling.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain reusable data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
Harden security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, SQL Server, and data storage.
Implement least-privilege access models and conduct entitlement reviews to remediate access issues.
Automate control deployment, configuration assessment, and compliance validation using scripting and IaC.
Provide hands-on technical support and collaborate with Security Operations, Data Governance, and IT teams.
