Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement, operate, and improve controls protecting institutional data across the enterprise, including analytics platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, and relational databases like Azure SQL and SQL Server.

This hands-on role requires strong encryption, access control, data masking, and secure data pipelines. Remote work is available from approved states; report to Deputy CISO and collaborate across IT teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT/CS or information security.
• 7+ years in information security, cloud engineering, or related field; 2+ years in data protection.
• Proficiency with SQL and secure cloud data platforms.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Implement and operate data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configure encryption at rest and in transit; manage keys, secrets, and credentials.
• Enforce least-privilege access; conduct entitlement reviews and automate remediation.
• Collaborate with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams.
