Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and enhance data protection controls across the enterprise data estate, including analytics platforms like Databricks and Microsoft Fabric. This 100% remote role supports teams across approved states to safeguard data and ensure compliance.

You will work with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams, reporting to the Deputy CISO, while enabling secure data workflows and automation at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in information technology, computer science or related discipline.
• 7+ years in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years focused on data protection or database security.
• Proficiency with SQL, including permissions, schemas, and security configurations.

Responsibilities

• Implements data protection controls across the enterprise data estate, including labeling, masking, and de-identification.
• Operates encryption controls for data at rest and in transit, and manages keys and vaulting services.
• Implements least-privilege access models and conducts entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for Azure SQL, SQL Server, Databricks, and data lakes.
• Embeds security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and integration workflows.
• Automates control deployment, configuration assessment, and compliance validation.
