Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a hands-on Data Security Engineer to implement, operate, and improve controls protecting institutional data across the enterprise data estate, including Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server.

You will work remotely from approved states and enforce encryption, key management, least-privilege access, data classification, and secure data pipelines, collaborating with Security Operations, Data Governance, and IT partners.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with data protection lifecycle including classification, encryption, key management, access controls and auditing.

Responsibilities

• Implements and maintains data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configures and operates encryption controls for data at rest and in transit.
• Implements least-privilege access models across data platforms and services.
• Embeds security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration workflows.
• Automates control deployment and compliance validation using scripting and IaC.
• Collaborates with Security Operations, Data Governance, and IT teams.
